SD TIMES DEBUTS NEW JAVA COLUMNIndustry newspaper also advances to eighth position in software development market
Oyster Bay, N.Y., September 5, 2001 - BZ Media’s SD Times, the newspaper of record for software development managers, has added a new Java column to its editorial lineup. Java Watch, which will be written every issue by well-known technology journalist Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols, will focus on the key management issues involved in developing applications based on Sun Microsystems Inc.’s Java specifications, including Java 2 Micro Edition and Java 2 Enterprise Edition. Vaughan-Nichols, a contributor to such publications as Byte, The Washington Post, and Web Developer, was formerly Editor-at-Large of Sm@rt Partner Magazine, and had previously worked as a programmer for NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense. “We’re delighted to welcome Steven to SD Times,” said Alan Zeichick, Editor-in-Chief of SD Times. “As the Java industry matures, the technology has become essential to many software development shops. From our first issue in February 2000, we’ve provided consistent news coverage of Java, its related specifications, and the huge industry that has grown up around it. Our new Java Watch column brings SD Times’ Java coverage to the next level.” SD Times has been demonstrating leadership in the software development industry, as evidenced by the latest independent research from Eugene, Ore.-based Adscope Inc., an advertising-tracking service, which reveals that the 18-month-old newspaper has advanced to eighth place in advertising marketing share out of 32 measured publications in the Technical/Developer category. In the latest Adscope report, carried in the August 27, 2001, edition of the Min’s B-to-B newsletter, SD Times was described as having carried 308 pages of advertising during the January-June 2001 time frame, advancing past such publications as 101 Communications LLC’s Application Development Trends and Java Report, Fawcette Technical Publications Inc.’s Java Pro, and CMP Media LLC’s Software Development Magazine. Adscope performs its own counts of advertisements, rather than relying upon often-inaccurate publisher-supplied data. “Despite the broad economic slowdown, businesses are still developing software – and those vendors selling software development platforms, tools, components, training, and services know that they must advertise consistently and efficiently in order to reach their target market,” said Ted Bahr, Publisher of SD Times. “Increasingly, those vendors are turning to SD Times, with its unique twice-monthly frequency, tabloid-sized format, and emphasis on news and analysis, to deliver the most efficient access to the enterprise software development manager.” | PR Contact Ted Bahr 631-421-4158 x101 ted@bzmedia.com | |
