SD Times Finishes 2004 Ranked #2
Independent report shows that software
development's industry newspaper continues to outpace the competition by
gaining market share and market position

Huntington, N.Y., March 10, 2005 - BZ Media
LLC today announced that
SD Times®,
the first and only trade newspaper for the software development
industry, continues to gain market share, passing tough competitors such
as Dr. Dobb's Journal and Java Developer's Journal to become the second
largest publication in the Developers/Technical category.
This market-share data is reported by Competitive Media
Reporting (CMR), a leading provider of marketing communication and
advertising expenditure information to advertising agencies, advertisers,
broadcasters and publishers.
CMR's most recent report (formerly known as Adscope) on
the Developers/Technical category showed SD Times as having the No. 2 market
share for all of 2004. This report was published in the February 14, 2005
edition of Min's B-to-B newsletter.
SD Times was described by CMR as having carried 553.25
pages of advertising during all of 2004. This represents a 14.37 percent
increase over SD Times' advertising in 2003.
CMR's report listed 2003's leaders as Windows & .NET
Magazine (637.50 pages), MSDN Magazine (602.67 pages) and Dr. Dobb's Journal
(529.33 pages), followed by SD Times (483.75 pages), MacTech Journal (417.50
pages) and Java Developer's Journal (404.42).
For the full year of 2004, the places had changed
dramatically, according to CMR, with the leaders becoming MSDN Magazine
(669.50 pages), SD Times (553.25 pages), Dr. Dobb's Journal (499.08 pages),
Redmond Magazine (387.61; it was formerly known as Microsoft Certified
Professional) and Windows & .NET Magazine (366.75 pages; it was renamed as
Windows IT Pro last year).
The other 2003 leaders slipped substantially in 2004, with
MacTech Journal being reported with 195.29 pages and with Java Developer's
Journal falling to 289.83 pages.
From 2003 to 2004, SD Times' market share also increased
from 7.50% to 10.26% in 2004.
Ted Bahr, president of BZ Media and publisher of SD Times,
said, "The market-share increases, particularly as SD Times' has overtaken
Dr. Dobb's Journal, for years considered the category leader, validates our
position as the only news and news analysis publication serving the software
development market. It also shows that the vendor community values SD Times'
unique audience of software development managers, recognizing the purchasing
power that they hold in today's enterprise IT environment."
BZ Media cites the CMR/Adscope numbers because they are
impartially and independently gathered, tabulated and published using
identical criteria for all 20 publications in the Developer/Technical
category.
