BZ Media Ranks on Inc. Magazine's
Debut Inc. 5,000 List

Huntington, N.Y., August 27, 2007 — BZ Media
LLC today announced that it has appeared on Inc. Magazine’s first-ever Inc.
5,000 list, which ranks the fastest-growing private companies in the United
States.
BZ Media, founded in 1999, was ranked as the 2,529th
fastest-growing company in the United States, and as the 48th
fastest-growing media company, according to Inc.
“The Inc. 5,000 provides the most comprehensive look
ever at the most important part of the economy — the entrepreneurial part,”
said Inc. 5,000 Project Manager Jim Melloan.
BZ Media was launched in 1999 by Ted Bahr and Alan
Zeichick, two media professionals with more than two decade's experience in
the publishing industry. BZ Media’s flagship property is
SD Times, the
twice-monthly newspaper of record for the software development industry. In
addition, the company publishes
Software Test & Performance,
a monthly magazine for software test/QA managers.
BZ Media is also active in Internet publishing and in
events, producing the
Software Test & Performance Conference,
EclipseWorld
Conference & Exhibition, and the
Software Security Summit
in 2007. The company reported US$5.5 million in revenue in 2006,
representing a 138.1% growth rate from 2003–2006, the period studied by the
inaugural Inc. 5,000.
Before founding BZ Media, Ted Bahr was a group president
and member of the board of directors of Miller Freeman Inc., now merged with
CMP Media LLC as a division of United Business Media Plc. In his 12 years at
Miller Freeman, Mr. Bahr managed several different computer, electronics and
entertainment groups of magazines, conferences, trade shows and online
properties, as well as launching seven magazines and countless other media
properties. Prior to joining Miller Freeman, Mr. Bahr worked for five years
in advertising sales at Ziff-Davis Publishing on PC Magazine and PC Tech
Journal. At the time, ZD was the largest U.S. publisher of computer
magazines. In October 2005, Mr. Bahr was named to Folio: Magazine’s
inaugural “Dream Team” as B-to-B Publisher.
After starting his career as a mainframe programmer and
systems analyst in the 1970s, Alan Zeichick shifted over to the world of
technology journalism in 1984, beginning at a small publishing company in
rural New England. From 1987–1990 he worked for IDG Communications and was
recruited to Miller Freeman Inc. in 1990. As an editor-in-chief and
editorial director at Miller Freeman, Mr. Zeichick led the content-oriented
aspects of the start-up, acquisition and repositioning of several
publications, as well as several trade shows and conferences. His final
project at the company was the award-winning repositioning and redesign of
LAN Magazine into Network Magazine. A prolific author and popular speaker,
Mr. Zeichick serves as editorial director for the company's magazines and
newsletters, chairman of several of its conferences, and manages its BZ
Research arm.
