BZ Media's SD Times Was the Fastest-Growing IT
Publication in 2007
Media Business Magazine recognizes SD
Times as showing the greatest year-on-year increase in print advertising
pages in IT media

Huntington, N.Y.,
March 10, 2008 — BZ Media LLC, publisher of SD Times, today
announced that its flagship publication,
SD Times, was listed in
the February, 2008 issue of Media Business Magazine as having increased from
649.8 advertising pages in 2006 to 730.7 pages in 2007 – the largest increase of
any print publication in the information-technology market.
The year-on-year increase of +80.9 advertising pages was
based on data provided to Media Business Magazine by The Auditor, a service
of Toronto-based Inquiry Management Services (IMS). BZ Media’s SD Times
edged out 75 other IT publications, including Vertical Systems (+78.0
pages), Internet Retailer (+55.2 pages), Business Solutions (+53.7 pages)
and Animation Magazine (+52.0 pages).
SD Times, launched in 2000, is a twice-monthly
tabloid-format newspaper that serves software development managers in
enterprises and independent software vendors (ISVs). SD Times is the largest
platform-neutral publication in the software development industry.
Ted Bahr, President of BZ Media and Publisher of SD Times,
said, “We were fortunate, when starting SD Times, to understand the impact
that the Internet would have on IT print publishing. SD Times has been
successful because of its focus on news-analysis, instead of the ‘how-to’
information that defined most IT publications. The Internet, thanks to
search engines, has becomes the home of ‘how-to’ technical information for
IT professionals, which is why so many IT publications have declined or
failed over the past five years. By contrast, the influential IT managers
who make up the SD Times readership can’t find news and trends by typing
phrases into search engines. Instead, they gain insights from SD Times,
which arrives in their mailbox twice each month.”
According to a recent Readex study, 44% of SD Times
subscribers read each issue the day it arrives.
SD Times’ increase in advertising pages stands in sharp
contrast to the recent declines across the industry. According to Business
Media Magazine, only 19 of the IT publications tracked by The Auditor showed
ad-page increases from 2006 to 2007. Some of the well-known titles showing
year-on-year declines include Think Services’ Dr. Dobb’s Journal (-9.0
pages), 1105 Media’s Redmond Magazine (-26.5 pages), TechWeb’s
InformationWeek (-158.1 pages), IDG’s ComputerWorld (-99.9 pages) and CIO
Magazine (-174.7 pages), Everything Channel’s CRN (-351.0 pages) and
Ziff-Davis Enterprise’s Baseline (-192.8 pages) and eWeek (-454.0 pages).
On April 15, 2008, BZ Media is launching
Systems Management News,
a twice-monthly tabloid-format print newspaper similar in format to SD
Times. Systems Management News will provide news-analysis to IT systems
administration, operations and data-center managers.
